The Hunger Games Chapter 10

1. Why does Peeta reveal his love for Katniss? Do you think he really loves her? Why or why not?
Peeta revealed his love for Katniss because Haymitch thinks that if Peeta does that the sponsors will pay attention more to Katniss and Peeta, now considered the lovers in my perspective. I don't think he loves her but I do think he has an attraction for her, he seems like the kind of guy that would crush on a girl like Katniss. I think he has an attraction for her because when Katniss and Peeta were talking about the avox he asked Katniss about Gale which a little unexpected if they're just friends and nothing more.

2. What is Peeta’s main concern during the hunger games?
Peeta's main concern during the hunger games is to die alone by himself. He does not want to harm anyone unless he has to. Peeta doesn't want to be be owned by them or to be changed to a monster that will do anything in order to survive. I see that Peeta is so unique! He has his own unique thoughts, what he is saying is true. He says that he wants to demonstrate the Capitol that they don't own Peeta like they think they do.

3. How does the Capitol view the previous arenas of the hunger games? How many games have there been?
The Capitol's way of seeing the arenas is as historic sites ones the arenan has been used as a game it is never used again. Everything in the arena is brand new as Katniss describes it. This is the 74th game in the history of games. There has been many people dead and only 73 survivors! Ubelievable!

4. What do you feel is the purpose of the hunger games?
I feel the purpose of the hunger games is to show the people in all Districts who is the strongest and most aggressive. Honestly I find no point in the hunger games i guess for them is an entertainment and I'm sure alot of people like these type of entertainment except who those that think is unfair.

Quotes
"I slam my palms into his chest. He loses his balance and crashes..." -Page 134
"'He made look!' I say. 'He made you look desirable! And let's face it..." -Page 135
"Who cares? It's all a big show. It's all how you're perceived" -Page 135
"He has done me a favor and I have answered with an injury. Will I never stop owning him?" -Page 137

The Hunger Games Chapter 9

 1. Describe Katniss’ interview attire and training? What affect do you think it had on the audience?
Katniss' interview seem to go preety well, thanks to Ceaser he makes people like the tributes in someweird sort of way. Katniss was wearing a dress that was covered with reflective prcious gems, she describes her self beutiful when she's wearing it, she thanks Cinna very much. I think that she left with the audience wanting more about her, having the urge to know more about her, how she is, basicaly her lifestyle.
2. How does Haymitch and Cinna ask Katniss to behave?
Haymitch and Cinna ask Katniss to be her self and try to answer the questions they ask her to be as honest as she can.

3. What do we discover about Peeta during his interview?
During Peeta's interview we discover that Peeta likes Katniss but not as a friend. It's very surprising but i knew it was so when Peeta was asking questions about Gale to Katniss, I had the idea.
Quotes
"Because my dress, oh, my dress is entirely covered in reflective precious gems, red and yellow and white with bits of blue that accent the tips of the flame design." -Page 120
"I am not pretty. I am not beautiful. I am as radiant as the sun." -Page 121
"'Her name's Prim. She's just twelve. and I love her more than anything.'" -Page 129
"'Why ever not?' says Caesar, mystified. Peeta blushes beet red and stammers out. 'Because . . . because . . . she came here with me." -Page 130

The Hunger Games Chapter 8

 1. What do the scores in the trainings mean to the tributes? What scores do Peeta and Katniss receive?
The scores in the training mean to the tributes how well they performed in front of the Gamemakers. Most of the tributes scored a five which is alright, Rue comes with a seven it's very astonisihng because she is small of her size. Peeta makes it with an eight. Katniss really impressed the Gamemakers with her angry move because she scored an eleven! The Gamemakers really must of been impresseed with her arrow landing on the apple, they must of liked her temper, like Haymitch said.
2. How did Katniss and Gale meet? Describe their story.
Katniss and Gale met while hunting, Katniss was toughing the snare and Gale comes out behind a tree telling her that that was dangerous. Gale was fourteen at the time and was about six feet tall. Katniss remembers seeing him around District 12 and at school. Gale had lost his father the same way Katniss did, at the mine explossion they had something in common from the beginning. They started a conversation and they shared their knowledge and they became a team without either of them mentioning it. Gale became more than a hunting partner for Katniss he became someone she can trust and someone that for sure won't let her down. She realized that she was genuinely happy when she was with him in the woods.
Quotes
"What will they do to me now? Arrest me? Execute me? Cut my tungue and turn into an Avox so I can wait on the future tributes of Panem?...I wasn't trying to kill one of them. If I were they'd be dead!" -Page 103
"Will, they take thair few belongings, or sendmy mother to prison and Prim to the community home, or kill them? would they? Why not? Why do they care?" -Page 103-104
"I dig my fingernails into my palms as my face comes up, expecting the worst. Then they're flashing the number eleven on the screen. Eleven!" -Page 108
"He became my confidant, someone with whom I could share thoughts I could never vocie inside the fence. In exchange, he trusted me with this. Being out in the woods with Gale . . . sometimes I was actually happy." -Page 112

The Hunger Games Chapter 7

1. What are the pros and cons of Peeta and Katniss being coached together?
The pros of Peeta and Katniss being coached together is that if one of them can't do a trick they can help each other and correct their mistakes. They can learn new tricks from each other and will get exact the same teachings. Another pro is that you won't doubt id Haymitch is giving more advice to one of the tributes than the other. The cons are that you can see the tributes weaknesses and strengths, which might give one of them ideas of how to kill them when it comes to the games.
2. What reasons does Peeta give for thinking Katniss will be better than him in the arena?
Peeta tells Katniss that she can hunt and aim at things easily and much much better than him. I could tell that he is convinced that he will loose in the games. Katniss simply doesn't believe she is better than Peeta, she declares good strategies Peeta has. I think Katniss does have a very good chance of winning but i think she has a weakspot at a point.

3. What are Career Tributes and how are they a threat?
Career tributes are peopl who train for the games their whole life they know the key to survival and have many strategies to kill people. They are a threat because they know many things that the other unexperienced tributes don't know how to do. The career tributes know how to kill you with anything and the tributes have to watch out for them when the games comes.

4. What does Katniss do to get the Gamemakers' attention?
To get the Gamemakers' attention Katniss shot an arrow at the pig which had an apple in his mouth. She was very fustrated that they would just ignore her and not pay attention. she kjust got mad and got o the point that she had to do that because its had to do with life or death.

Quotes
"I've been putting food on the table for four years. That's no small task. I'm not as good as my father was, but he'd had more practice." -Page 89
"'She's Excellent,' says Peeta. 'My father buys her squirrels.'" -Page 89
"You know what my mother said to me whe she came to say good-bye, as it to cheer me up, she says maybe District Twelve will finally have a winner. Then I realized, she didn't mean me, she meant you! bursts out Peeta." -Page 90
"Suddenly I am furious, that with my life on the line. They don't even have the decency to pay attention to me." -Page 101

The Hunger Games Chapter 6

 1. What is an Avox? How does Katniss know the Avox?
An avox is a person who committed a crime, people cut out their tongue's so they would never speak. Katniss knew the Avox that was serving her food. The Avox which is the red Head girl who she saw in the past with a boy who were in the woods. Gale and Katniss went hunting and they saw them walking until a hovercraft through a pear at the boy killing him. The Avox scram trying to find someone for help, she saw Katniss and Katniss didn't bother to help her, she regret it it a bit.

2. What prevents tributes from jumping off the roof? Why do you think this is in place?
An electric field prevents the tributes from jumping off the roof. The system throws you back to the roof so you won't run away from the place. I think that this system is in order because they are very organized and the have it all settled and prepared.

3. What reasons would Peeta have for being curious about Gale?
I think Peeta would be curious about Gale because he does not know much about him and he always hears girls talking about his looks and appearances. Maybe Peeta is jealous that Gale is such good looking that doesn't admitt it. I think that he wonders about Gale and Katniss because he always sees them together and was wondering about each other's relationship.

Quotes
"'And even if you did, you're not to speak to one of them unless it's given an order,' says Effie. 'Ofcourse, you don't really know her." -Page 78
"'Did they see you?' Peeta asked. 'I don't know. We were under a shelf of rock,' I reply." -Page 82
"The wind and the story have blown all the warmth from my body. The girl's scream. Had it been her last?" -Page 83
" I wonder if she'll enjoy watching me die." -Page 82

The Hunger Games Chapter 5

1. The presentation of the tributes seems to be greatly focused on visual presentation and looks — what does this reveal about the belief systems of the Capitol?
It reveals that every Capitol has it's own theme and job to do. The tributes have stylist, which keeps me wondering why, it's like if soldiers had stylists, but they don't. Looks are very important and considerable to the Capitol.

2. Compare and contrast life in the Capitol to life in District 12.
Life in the Capitol seems very wealthy and full of advanced technology that District 12 does not obtain. In order to have food on your table in Distrcit 12 you have to work very hard, and maybe hunt like Katniss. In the Capitol it's about who looks best and fashion that's why people that live there judge the Districts when they go fight. The Capitol is about impressions and who looks best unlike District 12, you wear what you can afford which is nothing like the Capitol.

3. What does Cinna ask Katniss and Peeta to do just before they ride out in their chariot? What is the purpose of this gesture?
Cinna asks Katniss and Peeta to hold hands before they ride out in their charriot. Katniss got upset because Cinna is making the look like a team, which should not be, because when they go to the games they would have to try to kill and murder each other. Maybe Cinna is trying to make them a team so they would possibly work together and come back alive after the games.

4. Why is it so hard for Katniss to trust Peeta's kindness?
It is hard for Katniss to trust Peeta's kindness because she thinks that Peeta is trying to gain her trust and trade her when they're in the games. I think Peeta is being genuine with Katniss, I doubt he has plans to hurt her in the furture. Katniss is doing right at being nice to him but not falling for his kindness.

Quotes
"Excellent! You almost look like a human now!" says Flavius, and they all laugh. I force my lips up into a smile to show how greatful I am." -Page 62
"We romise! You know, now that we've gotrten rid of all the hair and filth, you're not horrible at all!" says Flavius encouragingly." -Page 63
"But it's the fluttering cape made of streams of orange, yellow, and red and the matching headpiece that define this costume. Cinna plans to light them on fire just before out chariot rolls into the streets." -Page 67
"'I think he said for us to hold hands,' says Peeta. He Grams my right hand and his left, and we look to Cinna for confirmation." -Page 69

The Hunger Games Chapter 4

1. Do you think Haymitch will be helpful as a mentor? Why or why not?
I do think Haymitch will be helpful as a mentor because even though he was drunk, and he vomited all over the floor, it doesn't really much mean anything. It just means that people caught him in a bad day..

2. What does Katniss mean when she says: “A Kind Peeta Mellark is far more dangerous to me than an unkind one”?
What she meas by that is that it is more dangerous because if she just ignores that feeling he might turn his back on her. The unkind one is less dangerous because you know he will hurt you, and you might be ready till when it happens.I know by experience because it's true I had a close friend of mine and all of a sudden she hurt me emotionally and the feeling is horrible.

3. What happens to convince Haymitch that Peeta and Katniss might be fighters?
Haymitch punches Peeta across the face because it seems that Peeta insulted Haymitch but it's the other way around. Haymitch's first advice to Katniss and Peeta is to stay alive and starts laughing. Peeta told him it's not funny to them straight out. When Haymitch punches Peeta she defends him, even though she wasn't going to pay attention to Peeta anymore.

4. What is the first honest advice that Haymitch gives them?
The first honest advice that Haymitchgave Katniss and Peeta is ot to resist with the stylist.

Quotes
" I can't help feeling grateful..." -Page 48
"But judging by the state he's in, Haymitch will have no memory of this tomorrow." -Page 48
"So I'm pondering the reason why he insists on taking care of Haymitch and all of a sudden I think, It's because he;s being kind. Just as he was kind to give me the bread." -Page 49
"Haymitch cinsiders this a moment, then ounches Peeta in the jaw, knocking him from his chair." -Page 57

The Hunger Games Chapter 3

1. Who comes to say goodbye to Katniss? List.
The following people say goodbye to Katniss: Katniss' mother, Prim, Gale, Madge, and Peeta's father, the baker.

2. What does Madge give Katniss as a gift? What significance does it have?
The gift that Madge gives to Katniss is a circular gold pin. Madge tells her and makes her promise to wear it to the arena. Katniss notices that Madge was her friend all along, Madge kisses Katniss on the cheek and leaves. The pin with a bird significance is District 12/the Seam where Katniss lives.

3. What instructions does Katniss leave for her mother?
The instructions Katniss gives her mother is to take really good care of her sister Prim, after Katniss' father was blow to bits in the explosion she became the head of the family. Her mother was sick of sadness, and Katniss knows that her mother was worse when she volunteered to take Prim's place. Katniss literally told her to be strong and take Katniss' place.

4. What act of kindness does Peeta’s dad show to Katniss? How do you think this man might of influenced his son?
The act of kindness that Peeta's father showed Katniss was when he visited her after leaving and gave her cookies from her bakery, cookies was a treat her and her family couldn't much afford. He influenced his son because when Katniss was eleven he gave her burned bread for her knowing that his mother wouldn't want to sell it and he would get punished. Luckily he saved her and her family from starvation.

5. What advice does Gale give Katniss about surviving the games?
the advice Gale gives Katniss is to make a bow, Katniss knows it's hard to make but thanks to her father she kind of knows how to.

The Hunger Games Chapter 2

1. How does Katniss save her sister from the reaping?
Katniss saves her sister Prim from the reaping by volunteering to be a tribute instead of her. She really does love alot to be able to do that for her sister. That part of the story kind of reminds me of me, because I would do anything for my  baby sister.

2. Who is the boy tribute selected? How did he save Katniss life when she was 11?
The boy that was selected as a tribute was Peeta Mellark, he is the baker's son. Peeta saved Katniss when she was eleven because one day she was so exhausted and she did not have food for her or her family, and Katniss was sitting under a tree on a rainy day and he burned a bread on purpose. His mother punished him. He knew his mother wouldn't sell it so he had to go outside to give the burned bread to the pigs. He checked if the coast was clear and tossed some bread to Katniss. She felt so grateful but she did not thank him.

3. What kind of person do you think Peeta is? What evidence from the book led you to come to this conclusion?
I think Peeta is a considerate person, I think he's considerate because he burned the bread knowing he would get punished by his mother, and gave it to Katniss. Katniss ad her family survived from starvation thanks to Peeta, in another words Katniss owes him one.

4. Why does seeing the dandelion after her father's death give Katniss hope?
The dandelion gives Katniss hope because it brings back memories of when her and her father used to hunt in the woods. They would talk about how they would survive.

Quotes
"I volunteer!" I gasp. "I volunteer as tribute!" -Page 22
"I bet my buttons that was your sister." -Page 23
"I was right about not running off. Because who else would have volunteered for Prim?" -Page 25
"I had not only lost a father, but a mother as well." -Page 27

The Hunger Games Chapter 1

1. Describe District 12.
In chapter one District 12 is described with fences around it, which is electrified supposedly 24 hours a day but it's actually electrified 3 hours a day. District 12's nicknamed is the Seam, in the other side of the Seam has woods. People hunt out the woods to provide food for themselves. In the woods there are many types of animals that can hurt them and probably even kill them.

2. What illegal activity does Katniss participate in doing? Why does she need to do this?
The illegal and inappropriate activity Katniss does is going hunting, people are not allowed to hunt but yet she goes with Gale. She hunts to provide food for hers and Gale's Family.

3. Describe the relationship between Gale and Katniss. Do you have a relationship like this in your own life? Explain.
The relationship between Katniss and Gale seems pretty awkward to me, it seems like they're husband and wife, because Gale mentions something about Katniss and himself running away but they can't for their kids. I simply don't much understand their relationship. No I do not have a relationship like that and even if I did, everything would be different, with that's said I mean there would be times where I would try to change it our relationship because it confuses me.

4. How is Madge different from Katniss ad Gale?
Madge is distinctive to Katniss and Gale because she is rich and is the daughter of the mayor. She does not much have a group of friends she hangs around with, she has some similarities to Katniss as well.

5. What is the reaping? Do you think this practice is fair? Explain.
This reaping is when a young female and male from the twelve districts go verses each other and they get take to a land either desert or a cold place. They get left there for weeks and the last young people standing win and get gifts, food etc. They do not have to provide necessity on their own. The practice involves dieing or being one of the last one/ones standing. I do not find this practice fair, in fact I find it very pointless and meaningless!! I do not know what I would do if California was like that.

6. Who is selected at the reaping?
Primrose Everdeen is selected at the reaping, I was surprised, I never thought she would be selected!

Quotes.
"Inside the woods they roam freely, and there are added concerns like venomous snakes, rabid animals, and no real paths to follow. But there;s also food if you know how to find it." -Page 5
"Leave the district.Run off. Live in the woods. You and I,We could make it," -Page 9
"How could I leave Prim, who is the only person in the world I'm certain I love?" -Page 10
"I don't like that Gale took a dig at Madge, but he's right, of course" -Page 13
